CSCC Travel Scholarship Program

The 2023 Charlottesville Sister Cities Travel Scholarships application period is now closed. At this time, all TSP applicants have been notified of their award status.

About the Travel Scholarship Program

Travel Scholarship Program:  The Charlottesville Sister Cities Commission has a goal of making participation in the City's International Sister Cities program as inclusive and diverse as possible.

At present, individuals who participate in traveling delegations or student exchange programs with one of Charlottesville's Sister Cities (Winneba, Ghana; Besançon, France;  Poggio a Caiano, Italy; or our "Friendship City" Huehuetenango, Guatemala) typically have to pay out of pocket for their travel costs. Since this often poses a financial barrier to participation for low-income or working class residents, high school students, etc., CSCC has created the travel scholarship program to help lower such barriers and enable a broader cross-section of community residents to realize the benefits of Sister City travel opportunities.

Scholarship Limits and Conditions: The CSCC has allocated up to $8,000 for Travel Scholarships for the 2023 year. Local residents can apply for up to $1,000/each to participate in Sister City travel experiences during the coming year. Scholarship recipients must cover all travel costs above and beyond the scholarship amount they are awarded.

Application: Submit completed applications by email to cvillesistercities@gmail.com or mail to Charlottesville Sister Cities Commission c/o Kyna Thomas, P.O. Box 911, Charlottesville, VA 22902. Applications are limited to a maximum of three pages.

Deadline: 5:00 PM on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.  The CSCC will notify applicants of award status on or before April 7, 2023.

Post-trip Report: Scholarship recipients will be asked to provide a brief written report or oral presentation to the Commission to share their experience and learning within 60 days following travel.
